Eyes need extra during summer:

    Viral conjunctivitis is the most common eye problem in summer.

    Conjunctive is an infection of the white lining inside the eye with certain viruses.

    The virus particles can remain viable on surfaces for four to six weeks in ideal conditions and can cause contamination on contact during this period.


  • Itching
  • Watering
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Pain
  • Lid swelling
  • Bleeding under the conjunctiva
  • Blood stained discharge
  • Severe light sensitivity
  • Reduced vision.

Mode of spreading:

  • Direct or indirect contact with tears or eye secretions of an infected person.
  • Touching one’s eye

Best practices:

  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after touching the eyes.
  • Avoid touching areas like hand rails of escalators, door handles in public places, class rooms and public transport systems as far as possible.
  • Avoid sharing common house hold items.


  • Antibiotic drops
  • Eye lubricants
  • Cool compress with clean clothes
